Indian Independence Day Buffet - Le Meridien

Sorry I can only seem to write about food on here. Love food.

Anyway.

The mister and I got invited to nomnom at the Indian-themed Friday buffet at Le Meridien for India's Independence Day. I'm not going to say no to a buffet. Never.

We were invited to try the buffet and then blog about our experience objectively. We're letting you know because we always want to be objective and transparent. So yay high five.

In my excitement, I said I'd try every thing. Imagine my disappointment when I got to the buffet and there were only a few options. I was pretty bummed. The options were okay.

Then I looked over to other people's tables and I saw that they had things I didn't see. Only then did I realize there were a gazillion sections in the buffet. I was so happy. I was so overwhelmed.

Indian Food

Obviously, they had an Indian food section. There was a pot of rice - machboos if I remember correctly - that was three times bigger than my head. My pictures couldn't do it justice so I'm just not showing you. Take my word for it. Despite the good Indian food section, there was no chicken makani. I can't imagine an Indian place without butter chicken, oh well.

I'm so happy that I realized there were other sections in the buffet, or I wouldn't have been able to try the onion papadoms in its own section. So good. It's like those potato kababs we have in Ramadan.

Also, they had this thing called Indian-style hummus. I don't know what they did to the hummus, but it was possibly the best hummus I've ever tried.

Unfortunately, those two shining stars of their Indian food buffet - the papadom and the hummus - were a one-time special feature specifically made for the India's Independence Day. I told the chefs that that made me so sad.

Walking away from the Indian food, there's a cheese section with a selection of cheeses. I guess that's normal, but I decided that was the day I would actually try the cheeses, so it was pretty new to me. Much yum. Love cheese.

WHAT ELSE? For some reason, I'd been imagining this seafood section with bowls of fresh shrimp and crab, and I can't believe I found it.

Seafood

Sadly by the time I found it, I had eaten so much and didn't have the strength to open up the crab. Doesn't it look so good though?

Breads

It was time for dessert. They had a sexy-looking Indian themed dessert section.

Desserts

When it comes to desserts, though, I don't stray far away from the basic chocolate or vanilla cake. So imagine my happiness when I turn around to see a huge fridge filled with Haagen Daz's ice cream. THANKS GUYS. Something tells me the fridge was meant for kids though.

I probably didn't even cover half the things at the buffet, but it was so huge. I guess the downside of having too many options is that it's pretty overwhelming, and a bunch of sections get neglected. I'm pretty sure there was an abandoned pasta section. But there's no way I was going for pasta after all my yumyums, so it was okay. In typical buffet behavior, so much food being made meant that not everything in the buffet can be spectacular, but as buffets go, it was a pretty good buffet. I'd go again, honestly just to try to tackle the things I didn't try in this one. I want. That crab.

The service was excellent, it's like everyone was so happy to see us! On the outside of the buffet, they had a section for the kids with cookies, muffins, and jellybeans. I wish I saw it on my way in. I wasted an opportunity.

The best thing about the buffet though? THESE INDIAN FLAG FLOWERS.
